Interesting facts about winter sports
- 23 years old Jake Burton Carpenter, who worked 12 to 14 hours a day, quit his job and started his first snowboarding company: Burton Snowboards (Burton).
- Snowboarding was invented in the 1960s by an engineer named Sherman Poppen who tied two skis together and used the rope as a rudder.
- Until the early 1980s, snowboarding was banned at winter resorts. In 1983-84, the first to allow snowboarding was Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont.
- Snowboarding brought in 30% of the resort's income. Snowboarding was officially included in the Winter Olympics in 1998, and more than five professional competitions are held annually in the United States.
- The highest speed recorded during skiing was 249.5 km/h by Italian skier Simone Origone.
